November 28, 2021 - Form Flight - Millville Lunch

This late-November morning we would be doing a little formation practice.  It was a beautiful day:  clear skies, calm winds, smooth air.  A little cool, perhaps, but not bad.   I was Lead, Mugsy as #2 and Brian as #3.  Chuck was #4 but hung back to be our photo bird and safety observer.

Here I am at the Brief using my training aids.

Tom taxiis out in his Maule with his big, new Bush tires.

Ready to crank engines.

Crossing the Chesapeake Bay in route formation.

Turning over the Eastern Shore.

Close Trail formation.

We practiced formation flying for about 45 minutes, then continued east to Millville, NJ for lunch.  Here we are parked on the ramp by Verna's Flight Line Restraurant.

Heading home.  This picture doesn't capture how pretty the sun shining off the south Jersey estuary was.

Looking down at Mugsy.

While over the Delaware Bay, I noticed something big at my 11 o'clock.   After awhile he maneuvered to the south and I could see he had four engines.  Must be a 747.

Yep. A big 74.  Soon afterwards, he started a descent into Dover Air Force Base.  You can see the big guys from a long ways away.

Brian comes close on my left wing.

Looking down on Chuck.

Crossing the Chester River.  Even though it looks sort of like sunset, it was only 3PM or so.

Chuck in the lead, followed by Brian.

About to go feet wet over the Chesapeake Bay.

Approaching the Back River.

Over Bear Creek and Sparrows Point Country Club.

It's time to buzz the tower at Essex Skypark.

Fun!
